Good books this week:

Firestorm:
This book continues to impress me under Stuart Moore's writing. Jason is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters. When he started out in the book, he was a young man on the road to a nervous breakdown and as Moore has been pulling the earlier sub-plots together Jason has grown as a character. Still not grown-up, but on the path to becoming a real hero. The hard science in the earlier issues don't hurt, either.

Ultimate Spider-Man:
90ish issues in and Bendis continues to do some really freaking good Spidey stories. The previous story arc was good, not great, but he rebounded with a wonderful new story-arc dealing with Kitty and Peter's dating life and the complications that will inevitably arrive from have a girlfriend on the premiere team of mutants. The way Bendis has Peter speak is so entertaining. Good shocking ending too. I really didn't see it coming.

Son of M:
This book is so fucked up. Quicksilver is probably the biggest bastard in the MU. He has made the most awful of decisions for what he perceives as the right ones, but has no excuses for the fact that he has sacrificed other's lives and rights for his own personal issues. He's completely horrible and I'm totally hooked on finding out what happens next.

Nightwing:
I loved the last issue, but I don't really know as of this issue. I don't know where it's going. I'd like to say I'm sure that things will work out, but this book has been so Jekyll and Hide since Dixon left I just dunno about it.

Superman:
The funny thing about this book isn't how they're trying to redefine Superman, it's really how they're redefining the supporting cast. It's easy to overlook. Characters are really about the interaction with the world around them and they've done a good job re-inventing the wheel as for as the SC and villains in this book. The new outlook for Luther is probably the biggest revealation. It's hard to give life to a character who's only reason is to hate the main character. This newly motivated Luther is really going to be the most interesting thing about the redefinition of Superman.

Black Gas:
A standard Zombie movie plot super-charged by Warren Ellis goodness. Some truly horrific moments in the book. A bit light on the main's characterization, but I guess that's about par for zombie movies too. The scene when the Doc explains things what's going on is just great. Soo kicks ass. I love her.

Ultimate Extinction:
This mini-series is fabulous, but I'm certain that it could've been told in about 4 issues rather than 5. Still each issue is full of Warren Ellis goodness. This week I'm his bitch because I loved all of his books. Cap, of course, kicks complete ass.

Star Wars Rebellion:
When DH announce that they were cancelling a bunch of Star Wars books I was really upset. They weren't always great, but I found them to be pretty damn entertaining and I was afraid that they wouldn't fine their way back to doing those type of stories. I was wrong. While SW:KOR hasn't really been as good as I wished the others have been extremely good and Rebellion is excellent. Showing the Rebellion through the eyes of Janek Sunber is pretty good idea and the dynamics of a character that had been Luke's friend and now his "arch-foe" (Janek's thinking, the truth) makes for something a lot more interesting than just a random Imperial Officer. This book makes me really look forward to the new Legacy book this summer.

Desolation Jones:
Like I said, I'm Warren Ellis' bitch this week. While not as strong as the previous issues, this one ties everything together nicely. I'm beginning to have a problem with the way Ellis' stories end. Given the fact that he writes primarly short-stories adapted for comic format they sometimes have weirdly placed story-telling structures. That makes me often feel like there should be more. That doesn't diminish how good the stories are, just how I'm perceiving they flow. Still awesome book.
